Womanist Theology
I am so excited. The Black Woman Anthology just arrived today. It's a book by Toni Cade Bambara with contributions from Alice Walker(who coined the term, "Womanism"), Nikki Giovanni, Audre Lorde and Abbey Lincoln to name a few. Womanism is a term for Black feminism. Womanism recognizes the beauty and strength of embodied Black womanhood and seeks connections and solidarity with Black men. Womanism identifies and criticizes sexism in the African American community and racism in the feminist community. Alice Walker also used "womanist" to refer to a Black woman who loves other women, whether platonically or sexually.
